After painting the Les Roubion River and then the bridge, I visited the Chateau de Grignan. The enterence to the palace has such a fairytail look. When I returned to the Villa I changed the painting. I wanted a more romanic feel to the bridge. Reading about Madame de Sevigne traveling from Paris to Grignan and the fact that she left in Feburary and did not arrive till June, brought to mind images of that bridge. I could see the carriages crossing that bridge. In reality she more than likely came down the Rhone river. But then again, thats why I'm an artist.
